LATE DEBDAS MUKHERJEE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

For Any Engineering Students (2nd year onwards) of JGEC

[The sponsor of the scholarship is entitled to decide salient selection criteria, which is primarily financial. Out of the available applications, top three students may be called for a face to face interview. A face to face Interview shall be for the final selection and declaration; usually during the month of August while the alumni meet at campus. The interview venue (usually the Alumni House Kanchenjunga), date and time shall be intimated to the shortlisted candidates in due time by email or telephone call. Subject of interview can be academic or general, depending on decision of interviewers.
Selected students must bring with all supporting documents (in original/ attested true copy format) of the submitted information during interview or as informed by sponsor/ alumni association. Student must also collect the following certificates from the respective Head of Departments (HODs) and shall present it before the interview board:
1. Certificate of attendance for the last one year in %.
2. The scholarships they already receive and its detail, even a certificate if no scholarship or financial benefits are received.
3. A certificate of clearing all exams in the college without any back paper or year loss without a proper reason.
A format for this purpose is attached here and a print of the same may please be used for endorsement.
After interview, one or more successful student/s shall be selected for scholarship where the scholarships will be divided among the candidates; decision of sponsor and Alumni Association shall be final. In case telephonic interview is taken, then applicants need to submit supporting documents as informed to them.Applicants shall note that there are no minimum criteria for filling up application form.]

This scholarship is recognition to the student who is a very good student academically, having good result and achieved reasonably very good rank in Joint Entrance Examination in the state (WBJEEE) but financially weak/belongs to poor income Group, who has joined and continued at Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College for more than one year irrespective of any specific department.
The students need to apply through Alumni website, then the Alumni association in co-ordination with the College authorities shall collect the name and contact details with the required criteria which are required by the sponsored for his assessment/ selection of the student who is genuinely from poor income group of family, financially requires help for his pursuance of the 4-years Engineering study. After the overall review from the shortlisted candidates, sponsorer can take his own discretion to select the suitable candidate and award the scholarship. The amount of scholarship every year may be variable and depending on sponsored.

Who can apply : Any students of JGEC (2nd year onwards).

Amount of Scholarship : Amount of INR 10,000 each to two students of JGEC.

Debish Mukherjee entered JGEC in the year 1988. Out of 2000 Selected students for Engineering in that year by the WBJEE Board he took admission in JGEC in that year and at that time there were only three branches.
As per his ambition in life he took admission in Mechanical Engineering at JGEC leaving the other stream opportunity in other Engineering College at Calcutta. In college he served for lot of activities like College Sports Club participating in College Football Team and Cricket Team. He also participated on behalf of College for Jalpaiguri District League Cricket Tournament and Inter Engineering College Cricket Tournament. He was deeply involved in College Cultural/ Social fest.
After graduation from JGEC in 1992, he served two organizations and from 1994 till date he is working with Larsen and Toubro in India and abroad at different positions and assignment.
Besides his profession, he is also very fond of Cultural and Social activities. For giving this Scholarship, his family was with him from day one and they have given whole hearted support.
This scholarship is in the name of his father Late Shree Debdas Mukherjee, who has left this world in 2017 leaving his family (wife, son & daughter). He had sacrificed almost his entire life for the comforts of the family members, as a result many of which people has become successful in their lives. He went through a lot of struggle and taught us how to handle single handedly those struggles/problems of the family during the difficult phases while having financial crisis of the family.
He knew the value of money which was very important for becoming successful in life. His positive attitude, understanding and support to needy people was very much appreciated by others and he will live in all our hearts forever.
