"Kanchenjunga" the state-of-art convention centre in the heart of JGEC campus, has been conceptualized by the Alumni Association and a dream in making. Named after the mystic mountain which has been a source of inspiration for all of us in our life, it will comprise of a seminar cum conference hall with technologically advanced video conferencing facilities, meeting rooms, knowledge sharing room, library along with a reading room and guest rooms.
As the largest, most comprehensive and accessible convention centre in the JGEC campus; it is planned to be an ecologically sensitive building contributing towards our beloved Institute and Mother Nature. It is conceived to promote innovativeness among the JGEC fraternity. With its sophisticated and technologically advanced facilities, Kanchenjunga would be a natural choice of the industry and the corporates for their business summits, seminars and workshops in North Bengal. With generous contributions of the Alumni, the land to build Kanchenjunga has been purchased. Construction of the Annex facility of the convention centre is under advanced stages of implementation.
A long awaited home for our college alumni is coming up in a bought out private land just behind the mechanical workshop of our JGEC. It is taking shape by the active financial and other support from our students present and past.Besides the three storied building alone. The Alumni is actively involved in providing support to the needy student population in the surrounding area and helping current JGEC students reaching for number of sponsored scholarships offered from outside.
Going back to Kanchanjangha, the ground floor is operational already. Several functions have been held in the auditorium and the hall. Recently the first floor roof have been casted and the interior work is under progress. Bathroom tiles fitted.
It is a great achievement by the alumni members there and of course by the financial support from the members community. The remaining part which is the 2nd floor is only awaiting to view the real beauty of the world famous Kanchanjanhha.
To achieve this Alumni needs much needed financial support. May we request that whoever's is coming across this call to please contribute, however small it may be in the designated bank account regularly shared in the website of the association.
An Insight of Project Kanchenjunga
Locational Advantage
Project Kanchenjunga is located inside the premises of Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College campus, which is located at Jalpaiguri district town of West Bengal. Since it is located near Jalpaiguri town, which is a well-known administrative and tourist town in northen part of West Bengal, it would enjoy several locational advantage. The district economically is driven by the revenues and employment generated by sprawling tea gardens of the Dooars, agricultural products and forest resources. Established in 1980, Siliguri- Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) is a nodal agency for the development of the area. SJDA is in process of developing a modern Industrial Estate and a major satellite township. Several entrepreneurs have recently expressed their keenness in setting up agro and food based industries in the nearby areas. The place is well connected by road (NH 34), rail (2kms from Jalpaiguri road station) and the nearby airport (Bagdogra) is at a distance of about 55 kms.
Alumni Association has purchased a parcel of private land inside JGEC campus premises for Project Kanchenjunga.

Ownership and Institutional Structure
Kanchenjunga's ownership lies with the Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College Alumni Association. Over the years, JGEC has produced many leaders, entrepreneurs, managers, qualified engineers and professionals who collectively have abundance of knowledge and experience. The Alumni Association established in 2010 brings all these talented & outstanding individuals. Project Kanchenjunga is likely to become one of threads connecting all such brilliant minds and driven by the motto "Driven by Gratitude, Bonded with Nostalgia". This is an effort in a view of contributing to the growing generation, the Institute and the society as a whole.
With a gamut of experts from their field of specialization, it's evident that the Association is adept to nurture, design, execute and operate Kanchenjunga.
Project Cost and Schedule
The estimated cost of Kanchenjunga is INR 2 crores (INR 20 million) at current prices. Please refer folder "Financial Model".
Considering a regular fund flow, the project is scheduled to be completed in its entirety by 2018. Alumni Association requests sponsors and contributors for their active financial support till Kanchenjunga's successful completion.
Sustainability of Kanchenjunga
A corpus fund shall be kept for maintenance of Kanchenjunga. Apart from that, the sustainability of Kanchenjunga can be ensured by organizing seminars, workshops and value based programs on a regular basis.
Contributing towards the Cause
Kanchenjunga is located within the premises of the prestigious Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, the premier Institute in North Bengal. It is constructed and will be operated by professionals and reputed experts from the Alumni Association. Conceptualized to be one of the state-of-art convention centre in entire North Bengal, Kanchenjunga is likely to attract industry and corporate leaders not only from the region but also from the State. Apart from organizing regular seminars and workshops, Alumni Association foresees opportunities to offer Kanchenjunga and its services to corporate houses for business summits, meetings and seminars. This will generate a regular revenue stream and ensure its self-sustainability. Kanchenjunga will have 5 to 6 furnished guest rooms for accommodation.
